- DESCRIPTION -

A short book published originally in 1866 on the life of Kapiolani, a native Hawaiian chiefess whose life was impacted dramatically by the early Missionaries to the Hawaiian Islands and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She is most well known for her open challenge of "Pele," the Hawaiian goddess of the volcano.

It was somewhat gleaned from the writings of the original missionaries to arrive in the Islands and who knew her personally.

The author, Rufus Anderson, was the Foreign Secretary of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions that sent the missionaries to the Islands. He had himself visited the Islands to inspect the work of the mission.
